Nagle College would like to congratulate Denica Brillo on her amazing performance in Lights in the Park by Alexander Lee-Rekers. This play was a joint commission by ATYP and Playlab for 14-17 year olds which had its national premier at the Q Theatre 21st-24th April 2021.

On Wednesday 28 April we gathered as a school community to honour the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. We paid our respects to the past sacrifices made by ANZAC soldiers; we looked into the horrific events, the perspectives of the soldiers, prayed and understood the importance of ANZAC Day.

ANZAC Day is a time to reflect on those who have sacrificed so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. It is also a time to be thankful for what we have in Australia. We are called to think about the importance of the relationship between our close neighbour, New Zealand and the rich history we share. ANZAC Day follows Easter and in the Easter story, we have that ultimate of sacrifices: Jesus who died for us so that we might have eternal life.

The theme for this year’s Harmony Week is Everyone Belongs. Almost half of Australians were either born overseas or have a parent who was. In our community, we have a rich cultural diversity. When we think of the word“harmony”, we often think of music or colours.  Harmony Week is about bringing together the many people of our nation, celebrating the differences and treating those around us with respect and dignity so that we can have a living experience of harmony.

In late February, Catholic Youth Parramatta (CYP) hosted their regular LIFTED sessions online, featuring music, prayer, reflection and action for primary school students, Year 12 leaders, young adults and Faith in Action Team (FIAT) teachers across the Diocese of Parramatta. This Sunday, March 8th, we will mark International Women’s Day. The theme for the day is Choose to Challenge and we are asked to celebrate women’s achievement,  raise awareness against bias and take action for equality. We want to live in a gender-equal world, one in which all voices are heard equally and where all people have equity in opportunity.

This year 661 students from Catholic schools across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains stepped up to take the Executive Director’s Summer Reading Challenge! On Wednesday, the Season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday. We have launched Project Compassion and its theme for 2021 is Be More. Caritas undertakes important work both locally and globally to support those communities that are in need.
